Gunnison River Home
“I was excited to design and build the landscape for this Gunnison River Home. Our clients wanted a decorative, yet natural landscape in the front of the house and a usable, more formal landscape on the river side of the house. The previous home, which was removed, had an existing leach field that was relatively close to the entry, stood five feet tall and seemed to be an eyesore. Our challenge was to incorporate this large leech field into a natural landscape. Our solution was to truck in over 100 yards of topsoil, and eighty tons of boulders to create a naturally contoured mound and construct boulder outcrops that we could later plant with trees, shrubs, native grasses and wildflowers. Some of my favorite plants used include, Potentilla, Columbine, Golden Currant, Honeysuckle, Lupine, perennial Sage, and so many more. On the river side of the house, we had a hot tub that needed to be screened, yet the persons in the tub needed to be able to enjoy the amazing views of the Gunnison River. We created a beautiful boulder and perennial garden, flagstone patio and pathway, fire pit, formal lawn, and a dry creek bed adjacent to the river for flood mitigation.”
